You will learn about hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and the variety of products available on the market in Canada. Additionally, you will focus on vascular anatomy to ensure you remain safe while injecting and avoid complications.
Botulinum Toxin
- Introduction to neurotoxins
- Facial anatomy relevant to perioral area
- Types of available neurotoxins in Canada
- Pharmacology and physiology of neurotoxins
- Application and indications for neurotoxins in dentistry
- Therapeutic: (TMJ disorders including myofascial and arthrogenic disorders, bruxism, trismus, masseter and temporalis hyperactivity, headaches, sialorrhea and salivary secretory disorders, facial nerve palsy, facial pain, and trigeminal neuralgia, etc.)

Photography
Clinical Photography is a key element for accurate patient documentation, treatment planning, and case presentation. These images will drastically increase case acceptance and produce quality marketing and promotional materials. In this Hands-On session, Rita Bauer will teach you how to achieve a precise photographic record of your patient, using the Smart Phone. Learn how to program your smartphone for consistent exposures and accurate clinical images of your patients. Dr. David Goldshaw will familiarise you with the Shofu Eye Special C-IV, a camera specifically designed for dental photography, providing outstanding results with minimal effort.

Course Objectives for Botox and Dental Photography for Dentists
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to confidently administer therapeutic Botox treatments and utilize clinical photography for accurate documentation, patient education, and case presentation. The course objectives include:
- Gain knowledge of neurotoxin pharmacology and physiology, including mechanisms of action, onset, and duration relevant to dental applications.
- Understand facial anatomy relevant to therapeutic Botox use, particularly in the perioral and masticatory areas, including the masseter, temporalis, and surrounding musculature.
- Identify and compare the neurotoxin products available in Canada, including differences in formulation, dosing, and storage.
- Recognize clinical indications and contraindications for therapeutic Botox use in dentistry, including TMJ disorders, bruxism, trismus, sialorrhea, facial pain, and neuropathic conditions.
- Develop a step-by-step approach to performing safe and effective Botox injections, including site selection, dosing, technique, and documentation.
- Prevent and manage potential complications and side effects of neurotoxin therapy, including ptosis, asymmetry, and diffusion effects.
- Integrate RCDSO regulations and documentation standards in clinical practice to ensure safe and compliant use of neurotoxins.
- Understand the importance of clinical photography in dental documentation, marketing, and patient education.
- Learn to use smartphone cameras to produce consistent, high-quality clinical images using standardized protocols for lighting, positioning, and exposure.
- Gain proficiency with the Shofu Eye Special C-IV camera, including setup, operation, and the 9 imaging modes: face, standard, surgery, mirror, low-glare, whitening, tele-macro, video, and isolate-shade.
- Implement infection control protocols for disinfectable cameras in clinical settings.
- Transfer clinical images wirelessly using Wi-Fi-enabled SD cards to computers or tablets for case documentation and presentation using encrypted secure techniques.
By achieving these objectives, participants will acquire the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to safely introduce Botox therapy into their practice and enhance patient care through high-quality clinical photography.
