If you are a foreign graduate dentist, you must pass four exams administered by the National Dental Board of Canada. The Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge (AFK) exam is the first exam that you must take during your equivalency journey to becoming a licensed dentist in Canada. What Does the AFK Exam Cover?
The AFK exam is a computer-based exam that covers fundamental topics crucial for dental practice, including biomedical and applied clinical sciences. Candidates who pass this exam demonstrate a high level of understanding and knowledge of the core concepts of dentistry.
Format
- You will have 200 multiple-choice questions consisting of single answers to complete on your exams.
- You must complete two sections.
- Each section must be completed within the allotted two-hour time frame.
How can the AFK Exam be Taken?
The AFK is offered at designated examination facilities, which are paper-based, and Prometric testing centers, which are computer-based.
Exam Sessions
This exam can be taken in February and August of each year.
Passing Score
To pass this examination, you must receive a test-equated score of at least 75%. Each question is worth one mark. Wrong answers will not cost you any marks.
Attempts
You will only be permitted a maximum of three attempts for the AFK exam.
